LET'S IRON OUT A FEW WRINKLES was made by Edward D Bacal from August-September of 2025
This is the first proper mix I've made since 2020. I got burnt out on putting my energy into dumping un-listened to mixes in an oversaturated sea of online music, but had an epiphany that I should make something new, just to create something with the love and care I'd invest if it were, say, a commercial release. And I should go full DIY: record it onto cassettes, design the cover art, make the packaging by hand, write blurbs about each track, design and hand-code my own website to host a digital version (the cassette version is still in progress - if you are interested in receiving a cassette version, please contact me).
This mix is made up of favourites: favourite records I've found over the last several years, life-long favourites, and tracks that have made me think "I should make a mix just to include this." I wanted to create something that is the opposite of a spotify playlist, foregrounding personal and historical context, without the anonymity and hyper-convenience of streaming platforms and without new releases. All tracks are sourced from my record/CD collection, with anecdotes about how I found the record and what it has meant to me, literally telling a story about 20 years of record collecting, along with some bits about the tracks/artists.
